Summary:
In November, at the OSAPS conference held at the Shanghai International Convention Center, Dr. Myung-Ju Lee presented his research findings and detailed operative techniques for using autologous rib cartilage in the complex nasal structures commonly found in Asian patients. This advanced method was shared with numerous plastic surgeons from various countries.
Dr. Lee has been utilizing autologous rib cartilage for the past 8–9 years and has performed hundreds of these procedures. Drawing on this extensive clinical experience, he offered a systematic classification for challenging and problematic Asian noses. In particular, he highlighted the need for rib cartilage in cases of post-infection nasal deformities, post-traumatic deformities, multiple previous surgeries, or inherently underdeveloped noses. This approach provides a reliable and innovative solution for complex nasal corrections in Asian patients.
