Topic: Autologous Cartilage Rhinoplasty

In recent years, as the domestic plastic surgery field focuses more on safety and natural beauty, numerous new surgical methods have emerged. Among them is the “Autologous Cocktail Rhinoplasty,” a technique expected to significantly enhance the safety of the plastic surgery industry, especially in the area of nasal surgery.

Dr. Myung Ju Lee of VIP Plastic Surgery Clinic presented the results of two years of clinical research on “Autologous Cocktail Rhinoplasty” at the 10th Severance Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Symposium, held from October 20–21 at Yonsei University’s Severance New Hospital. He delivered a formal presentation and performed a live surgical demonstration showcasing this procedure.

Having previously introduced this method at the Korean Association of Plastic Surgeons conference in March, Dr. Lee’s “Autologous Cocktail Rhinoplasty” is noteworthy for its ability to bring out a more natural-looking nose without the use of implants. By skillfully combining autologous fascia, auricular cartilage, and septal cartilage, the surgeon can raise the nasal bridge while minimizing complications, side effects, and the likelihood of revision surgeries.

This approach also effectively addresses areas that have been difficult to treat with traditional implants, making it possible to achieve a more natural and safe enhancement of nasal shape.

According to clinical results at VIP Plastic Surgery Clinic, the procedure was performed on 60 patients over the past two years—18 first-time surgeries and 42 revision cases—with highly satisfactory outcomes. Compared to implant-based rhinoplasty, which can appear artificial and show implant edges, “Autologous Cocktail Rhinoplasty” achieves a more organic look. Even for minimal dorsal augmentation, surgeons can avoid implants by using this technique.

In these clinical cases, no significant complications or side effects were observed. Improvements in nasal height ranged from 2.0 mm to 4.0 mm. In particular, when performing a revision surgery on patients with inflammation caused by existing implants, the traditional approach could require several months of waiting time. With the autologous cartilage cocktail method, however, the treatment period can be shortened to just a few weeks.
