In addition to introducing a new turbinate surgery technique, Dr. Myung-Ju Lee delivered a presentation on saddle nose deformities—cases in which the mid-dorsal portion of the nose is significantly depressed. He examined the causes of such deformities and systematically classified various reconstructive methods based on the extent of changes or loss in the nasal supporting framework. These methods involved using autologous tissues—such as septal cartilage, auricular cartilage, and even costal cartilage—to rebuild the nose.
Dr. Lee emphasized that one of the most critical aspects in correcting saddle nose, which can stem from trauma, septal surgery, or nasal inflammation procedures, is reconstructing the L-shaped support of the nasal septum. His lecture provided valuable insights that significantly contributed to advancements in complex rhinoplasty.
