Lecture Content:
Dr. Myung Ju Lee gave a presentation titled “A Safe Rib Cartilage Harvest Method & Indications for Rib Cartilage Rhinoplasty” to hundreds of plastic surgeons. He introduced a new incision technique designed to ensure safe harvesting of rib cartilage while minimizing scarring.
Additionally, Dr. Lee expanded the applications of rib cartilage beyond its established role in correcting contracted noses—often resulting from infection or excessive scar tissue—to include short or small noses, midface retrusion, and mouth protrusion. In cases where patients have normal dental alignment, he suggested rib cartilage surgery as a safer, less invasive alternative to more extensive procedures such as two-jaw surgery or alveolar bone resection for protruding mouths. This approach offers a conservative option for achieving balanced, aesthetic facial contours.
