Dr. Myung-Ju Lee explained that while silicone implants are commonly used for rhinoplasty in Asia, complications related to silicone are also on the rise. To minimize these side effects and reduce the need for revision surgeries, he presented autologous rib cartilage as an alternative. He provided numerous examples and outlined the indications for rib cartilage rhinoplasty as follows:

Indications for Rib Cartilage Rhinoplasty:

  1. Severe lower-profile nose
  2. Small nose
  3. Retruded premaxilla and midface
  4. Contracted nose
  5. Short nose
  6. Retracted alar deformity
  7. Pinched tip deformity
  8. Cleft lip–nose deformity
  9. Saddle nose deformity
