| Rib Cartilage Rhinoplasty for Small Nose

100% Autologous Rib Cartilage Rhinoplasty & Mid-Face Augmentation Before & After
This 60-year-old patient desired a more defined nasal bridge without using foreign implants. A 100% autologous rib cartilage rhinoplasty was performed, combined with mid-face augmentation using the same rib cartilage.
Patient Profile and Concerns
Age/Sex: 60s, Female
Main Concerns: Nose height was perceived as low and short. Mid-face appeared sunken, creating pronounced nasolabial folds.
Preference: Avoided foreign implants and sought a natural-looking result.
Surgical Method
Cartilage Harvest: Autologous rib cartilage obtained from the right 7th rib through a 3 cm incision placed under the breast line.
Rhinoplasty Reconstruction: Cartilage carved into pieces to form the nasal bridge, tip, and support structure. Emphasis on creating a balanced, elongated nose while preserving a natural aesthetic.
Mid-Face Augmentation: Additional rib cartilage used to support the nasal base area. Aimed to soften strong nasolabial folds and improve mid-face projection.
Recovery and Results
Anesthesia: General anesthesia with IV sedation (TIVA).
Recovery Time: Around two weeks for initial healing; up to 6-12 months for the final refined result.
Outcome: The nose is visibly elongated and harmonized with other facial features. The mid-face area appears more balanced, reducing the prominence of nasolabial folds. No visible signs of implants, as only the patient’s own rib cartilage was used.
